Meeting continually since 1988, San Francisco's BAY AREA GENDER ASSOCIATES (BAGA) is the longest established peer consultation group in the world of licensed psychotherapists who work specifically with transgender identity issues. Individually and as a group we have presented papers, discussions, lectures, and workshops at local, regional, national, and international conferences for professional organizations including those listed in the links to the right.

Each BAGA therapist maintains her or his own practice and bears no responsibility for any other therapist's work or views, but our regular meetings provide a forum in which we can all explore difficult or unusual transgender concerns with knowledgeable, experienced peers.

Beyond familiarity with psychotherapy in general and transgender issues in particular, our diverse backgrounds include developmental and behavioral psychology, depth psychotherapy, relationship counseling, social action and social service, community and academic education, corporate training, consultation with schools and media, medications management, and clinical sexology.Although we come from varying backgrounds, orientations, and philosophies, we are all members of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and subscribe to that organization's Standards of Care. Moreover, we are all comfortable operating within both binary and nonbinary systems of gender, and agree with WPATH that "the overarching treatment goal (for trans people) is lasting personal comfort with the gendered self in order to maximize overall psychological well-being and self-fulfillment."(SOC6)
